History

St. John's Hall opened in September 1912. It was an Anglican hostel attached to the University of Hong Kong. When the University formally opened, St. John's Hall was the only hostel ready for occupation. It provided residence to undergraduates. It was succeeded by St. John's College in 1955. St. John's Hall was governed by the Church Missionary Society for Africa and the East, which committed the management of the Hall to a Warden and a Board of Control.
